Dr. Joshua Batson is the Chief Data Scientist of PHC. Prior to joining PHC, Josh was a Senior Research Scientist at the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub, where he worked with Drs. Dynerman and Li to lead a statewide genomic epidemiology initiative in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Together, they empowered 24 local health jurisdictions, collectively representing more than 24 million people, to respond more effectively to the virus. Previously, Josh brought innovative quantitative approaches to difficult problems in microscopy, cell biology, autonomous navigation, web search, cybersecurity, quantum topology, and metagenomics. He is proud to have discovered a novel solemovirus in a California mosquito, which he named in memory of his family dog. Josh holds degrees in mathematics from Yale University (B.A.), the University of Cambridge (M.Phil.), and MIT (PhD).
